IDF Confirms Death of US-Israeli Soldier Held in Gaza

The IDF confirmed on Monday that Captain Omer Neutra, a US-Israeli tank commander, was killed on October 7, 2023, during Hamas’s attack on southern Israel, and his body remains in Gaza. Neutra, a 21-year-old lone soldier from New York, was stationed near Nahal Oz when Hamas terrorists ambushed his tank, abducting him and three crew members. While the deaths of two crew members were previously confirmed, new intelligence has now verified Neutra’s death, while the fate of the fourth soldier remains unclear.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu extended condolences to Neutra’s family, praising his commitment to Israel and vowing to recover his body for a proper burial. Neutra, who had delayed college to serve in the IDF, was remembered as a dedicated leader and sports enthusiast, with his family describing his tragic loss as part of the broader devastation caused by the attack.
