Officials Seize Broadcasting Equipment from the Associated Press

Israeli officials are set to return camera equipment to the Associated Press (AP) after seizing the broadcasting gear in Southern Israel. The officers alleged the news organization violated a new media law by providing footage to Al Jazeera. The AP provides footage to thousands of clients around the world. The AP condemned the seizure, arguing that it complied with Israel’s military censorship rules and criticized the action as an abuse of the new law. The Communications Ministry defended the move, stating the AP had been warned and continued to break the law. This action follows a recent government decision to close Al Jazeera’s offices in Israel and ban its broadcasts.

Opposition leader Yair Lapid called the seizure “madness,” emphasizing the AP’s prestigious journalistic reputation. The White House expressed concern and insisted on journalists’ rights to perform their work. The Prime Minister’s Office claimed Benjamin Netanyahu was not informed about the confiscation beforehand. Israel has a history of accusing Al Jazeera of bias and  incitement against the country.
