Escalating Tensions: Israel Intercepts Houthi Missile and Drone Attacks

A Houthi-launched ballistic missile from Yemen triggered sirens to ring out across central Israel, including Tel Aviv, Petah Tikva, and Herzliya. Israeli air defenses intercepted the rocket outside the country…  but sirens sounded out to warn of potential falling shrapnel, which ultimately landed in the northern West Bank without causing injuries there.

Five individuals were lightly injured while running for shelter and were treated by medics. Earlier the same day, the Israeli Navy intercepted a Houthi drone over the Mediterranean Sea. These attacks are part of a series of missile and drone launches by the Iran-backed Houthis since the Gaza war’s outbreak, prompting Israeli military responses, including airstrikes in Yemen.

The Jerusalem Post reports that…after months of Yemen attacks with not much of a response… Israel appears ready to retaliate against the Houthis in Yemen after losing patience with the ongoing ballistic missile and drone attacks. Since November, the Houthis, backed by Iran, have launched around a dozen missiles and drones targeting Israel. Despite earlier hesitations influenced by regional ceasefires and strategic timing, sources suggest Israel is now prepared to act decisively, marking a shift in its approach to the Houthi threat.
